UNCLE PAT HEALY

Uncle Pat was the kindest, best uncle any child could wish for. He often carried me as a baby from our place on the 12th concession to Gram's on the 14th. He, too, loved children, was always full of fun and jokes and played tricks on us when we were kids. He would often drop in to our place to chat with his sister "Min".

I was about four years old when he married Aunt Stella and I remember very well the lovely dresses and her beautiful wedding suit.

They were both extremely good to me, in spite of their own growing family making many demands. Aunt Stella sewed beautifully and often helped me out when I needed a new dress in a hurry! I remember many happy times at Uncle Pat's, and after they moved to St. Mary's often visited and felt very close to them.

It must have been very hard for Uncle Pat's to leave their farm, as so many had to do during the depression years. Uncle Pat got work in Maxwells in St. Mary's and was there for many years until his retirement. He worked in the moulding shop; the Company made washing nachines, lawn mowers, wheel barrows etc. During the war they switched over to hand grenades and plugs for bombs. Uncle Pat was well liked and respected at Maxwells, but it could not have been easy to start working for someone else at middle age.
