PREFACE

Each family is a living bridge, spanning up to 200 years. It connects us with forebears in the 19th century and links us to successors in the 21st. The eldest member in each network of relatives and friends has memories reaching back nearly 100 years, while the youngest member could be living a century from now.

This is the story of Michael Healy and Mary Rahaley and of their only son John and his wife Julia and their descendants.

At this date I am the eldest living grandchild of John and Julia. I have not attempted a serious genealogical study, though the data has been carefully checked and I have striven for the greatest possible accuracy.

There are gaps in the story, and many unanswered questions. But it is a beginning, and it is my hope that the story will be continued at some future date by some other interested family member.

To all those who have helped me in any way, I am deeply grateful. To everyone who supplied information, documents, pictures, etc.., to those who answered my letters and phone calls, and patiently dealt with my endless questions, thank you! The story could not have been told without you. It is offered as a work of love to the Healy family of which I am a proud member.
