THE CHILDREN OF JOHN AND JULIA
MICHAEL There are no pictures of Uncle Mike, who died before he was quite 20 years old. A copy of his Will, written on his deathbed was kept in the Bible. A story told by a cousin (Anne Kehoe-Hishon) described his wit as a young lad. Once, when ploughing in the field next to the Kehoe farm, he was sent a plate of cookies and a glass of milk by his Aunt Ellen (Anne's mother) On the return of the empty plate she asked: "well, what did he say?" The answer: "He said they were very small cookies!" MARY CATHERINE (Aunt Minnie) My mother was known as "Minnie" to her family and friends. She married Mike Murray from Kinkora when she was 33. Three years later I was born, Gerald came next and Ellen completed our family. Mother was extremely proud of her children and loved them dearly. Minnie was ambitious in her youth, and in spite of Gram's protests (she was badly needed on the farm) went away to improve her education and broaden her experience. She was in training in a Nursing Hospital in Mount Clements, Michigan, stayed for a year or two but did not graduate. Never robust, she found the work heavy and the hours long. She took dressmaking and millinery courses in Mitchell, both popular lines of work for women in those days. Eventually she came home and married Mike. They farmed in Logan on the 12th concession for many years. My early memories are of a beautiful lady who wore pretty dresses, sang songs and. played the organ. She was very creative and made up games for the children and read them stories. During the great Flu epidemic of 1917-18, she made good use of her training as a nurse and worked tirelessly in the neighborhood to help the sick. Later, her own health failed and she became very serious and even strict. She died in Logan at age 63 after a long and painful illness.
